Dear Radio Friend,     This week's show features stories from NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Havana Cuba, and Spanish National Radio.        From JAPAN- North Korea media describes agreements reached at the summit with the US as a phased denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and a halt to the US/South Korean military exercises. Then an Insight on the summit by the former head of a Japanese security agency. A further report from North Korean media says sanctions will be lifted.

Indigenous Keystone XL resisters to install solar panels in path of pipeline.

While "TransKlanada" has announced no final decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, they nonetheless plan to start clearcutting THIS YEAR to allow construction in 2019. Oil prices spiked dangerously close to the level that would make tar sands profitable again this year, possibly putting KXL back on the table. In the face of this, Indigenous communities have announced they will build solar power facilities in the direct path of the proposed pipeline.

Dear Radio Friend,     This week's show features stories from NHK World Radio Japan, Spanish National Radio, Radio Havana Cuba, and Sputnik Radio.        From JAPAN- Journalists witnessed the dismantling of a North Korean nuclear test site- the North threatened to skip the summit with Trump after VP Pence said military attacks on the North were not ruled out.- some hours later Trump announced he was canceling the summit. The Japanese nuclear regulatory agency reported leaks at 7 nuclear plants, but said they posed no danger.

Dear Radio Friend,     This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Havana Cuba, Sputnik Radio, and NHK World Radio Japan.        From SPAIN- Alison Hughes covered two topics, the new president in Catalan and the massacre of Palestinian protestors during ceremonies in Jerusalem. On Monday the Catalan parliament elected the pro-independence candidate Quim Torra to be its regional president. Quim was favored by exiled president Puigdemont who remains in custody in Germany.

At a preparatory meeting for the 2020 nuclear non-proliferation summit, delegates expressed opinions on the future of nuclear power plants. The Chinese and North Korean Foreign Ministers met to discuss the inter-Korean summit.

MD residents rally in Baltimore to kick fracked gas infrastructure out of state

On the 18th of April, MD residents from Cove Point, Accokeek, Myersville, and other places menaced by fracked gas project protested outside the MD Dept of the Environment. They were there to demand that the existing state ban on fracking be made meaninful with a ban on fracked gas pipelines and compressor stations, and that the export terminal at Cove Point be shut down.

DC Divest rallies for Wells Fargo divestment bill stuck in Jack Evan's committee

On the 18th of April, DC Divest rallied on the steps of the Wilson Building, then packed the room at the DC Council’s CFO Oversight Hearing. They were there to demand that Jack Evans stop holding up a bill to remove the DC government's money from Well Fargo.

Fracking/drilling protesters greet Ca Gov Jerry Brown at National Press Club

On the 17th of April, California's governor Jerry Brown appeared at the National Press Club. To get in, he had to pass protesters demanding he cut his ties to California's oil and gas industy and ban fracking in his state. The oil industry has CA in their sights for the next big North Dakota style oil fracking boom.
