Pastors, church elders hold mass "reclaiming Jesus" march on White House against Trumpism

On the 24th of May, a number of high-profile Christian pastors and church elders led a massive march on the White House against most of what Trump stands for. Organzers estimated 2,000 marchers participated, many carrying electric candles in the evening. From these lights the smoke of hate could not rise.

Poor People's Campaign protests inside US Capitol, about 50 arrests

On the 21st of May, the Poor People's Campaign returned to the US Capitol for a second round of civil disobedience. While cops lined the street to prevent a second round of obstructive street protest, activists went inside the US Capitol itself and protested there. Reports at the scene were of approximately 50 arrests resulting.

Mass civil disobedience, arrests as Poor People's Campaign kicks off at US Capitol

On the 14th of May, the Poor People's Campaign kicked off six weeks of direct action with civil disobedience in cities all over Turtle Island, resulting in hundreds of arrests. Here in DC, protesters marched into the streets from the US Capitol and were quickly but partially kettled by US Capitol Police. The route back to one sidewalk was not blocked but protesters stood their ground and were then arrested.

Neo-Confederates in Richmond carry rifles, hide behind cops from anti-fascists anyway

On the 5th of May, 12 members of the "DIxie Defenders" and "Confederate States of America II" showed up in front of the Robert E Lee monument in Richmond, VA. They mostly hid behind police even though three of them carried military style AR-15 rifles. Opposing them were between 50 and 100 people in three clusters of counterprotesters.

AMREN (Nazis) meets in TN behind heavy police protection

Long has it been said that "cops and the Klan work hand in hand." On Apr 28, police used all available strength to defend an alt-right even for the second week in a row. The American Renaissance Conference (driven out of DC in 2010) met that day in Montgomery Bell State Park in TN. Protesters had the choice of staying out of sight and sound or marching into a protest pen where all entrants were searched.

Black Lives Matter blockades NY Ave, Chinatown after hearing for killer cop

On the 11th of April, MPD officer Brian Trainer had administrative hearing concerning MPD's internal review board's finding that he should be fired for shooting motorcyclist Terrence Sterling on Sep 11, 2016. The evening after the hearing, Black Lives Matter DC, SURJ-DC, No Justice No Pride, and others blockaded NY Ave and Chinatown to remind Mayor Bowser that letting killer cops walk carries a price tag.

Puerto Ricans protest FEMA, Congress six months after Hurricane Maria

On the 20th of March, Puerto Ricans came to DC, outraged by the US government's refusal to help rebuild Puerto Rico's power grid and other crucial infrastructure. They held a rally outside FEMA before marching to Congress under rain so cold it was snow and sleet just a few miles north of the city.

Anti-Fascist protesters confront Cernovich's event at City Club of Washington

On Feb 24th, Mike Cernovich and others associated with the Deploraball were back in DC. They held "A Night for Freedom DC" at The City Club of Washington just a block from the Deploraball site, running the gauntlet of loud anti-fascist protesters to get in and often being photographed. Attempts by the fascists to conceal their venue location ended in failure, with protesters descending on their party.

Family, supporters of Bijan Gaisar protests his death at US Park Police hands

On the 26th of January, Bijan Gaisar's family and friends spoke at a massive protest in front of the US Dept of the Interior, demanding the names of the two US Park Police officers who shot him dead. On Friday, Nov 17, 2017, US Park Police approached his vehicle with drawn guns after a chase that began over a fender bender in which he had been the victim, struck from behind. At the end of the chase, he may have seen the guns, reacted, and tried to escape with his life.

J2018 protests hit the streets on anniversary of Trump's Inauguration

Jan 20, 2018, much of the Federal government's non-cooercive portions shut down on the anniversary of Trump's Inauguration. ICE, the FBI, and the military are not included in the shutdown. Meanwhile, protesters hit the streets all over DC. There was a satirical vigil for a broken window at the same Starbucks that got trashed on J20-2017, another Women's March, and a culminating banner drop between the flagpoles in front of Union Station.
