Climate stability activists rally to support EPA power plant rule on day of hearing

On the 29th of June, CCAN, 350.org and other pro-Earth organizations held a rally outside the EPA as a hearing on the proposed power plant CO2 emission rule gut under way. Shortly after the rally, Climate First! activists arrived at the US Chamber of Commerce saying their climate change denial is "bad for the bottom line" before also marching to the EPA, where supporters stayed put all day as the hearing continued.

Critical Mass ride reportback: these rides are growing!

Critical Mass rides on the last Friday of every month in DC are growing! Although not as big as the 600 rider Bike Parties (yet), these rides now seem to get bigger every month. The July 25th ride went to the DC General/DC Jail area, then to the SE Waterfront between the Navy Yard and the river and a mid-ride stopover. After that the ride went back through town before ending at a bar just south of U st.

Organizing starting in DC for massive NYC Peoples Climate March on Sep 21

On the 23ed of July, pro-Earth and climate justice activists held an organizing meeting at MLK Library for DC activists who will be travelling to NYC for the Peoples Climate March on the UN on Sep 21. The event is still 8 weeks out, and bus captains are being recruited so charter busses can be organized to provide transportation to this event.

Over 1,000 march on FERC against gas export from Cove Point or anywhere

On the 13th of July, over 1,000 people marched from the Mall to the 1st st NE offices of FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. They were demanding that FERC refuse to approve permits for fracked gas (LNG) exports from Cove Point, MD or anywhere else. Until now FERC has acted like a rubber stamp for fossil fuel energy projects.

Massive Bike Party rides after Washington Post prints call for assaults on cyclists

On the 8th of July, the Washington Post published a vicious Courtland Milloy editorial encouraging motorists to run down cyclists. Cyclists on Twitter responded with the handle #BikeTerrorist, and on the evening of July 9 hundreds of riders took to the streets for the already-planned DC Bike Party.

On the 5th of July, a PNC Bank account holder backed by Climate First! and Earth Quaker Action Team showed up at PNC Bank to demand that they stop investing in mountaintop removal coal mining.

UPDATED: Call for an Anticapitalist Bloc in the July 13 Cove Point fracked gas march on FERC

On Sunday, the 13th of July, thousands will march from the US Capitol to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission against fracking and against fracked gas export from Cove Point, MD on the Chesapeake Bay.

We are calling for an anticapitalist bloc within this march on the grounds that stopping the destruction of Earth by fracking, tar sands, and mountaintop removal will require the overthrow of capitalism

The march will be gathering on the West side of the US Capitol along 3ed st NW on the Mall, bounded by Madison Drive NW and Jefferson Drive SW, which is the center area. Meet at the rolling infoshop cart under the red and black flags, wear black T-shirts.

Moms Against Monsanto march in Palisades 4th of July parade

On the 4th of July, the Palisades 4th of July parade included a "Moms Against Monsanto" contingent organized by Moms Across America. They showed up with young children in tow, objecting both to GMO foods and to Roundup in food making its way into breast milk at over 1,000 times the levels permitted in European drinking water.

Keystone XL protesters enter TD Bank

On the 28th of June, protesters from Climate First! entered two branches of TD Bank demanding they sever their ties to TransCanada, builder of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

Critical Mass DC June Video Reportback

On the 27th of June, over 50 riders showed up for Critical Mass DC. This ride was less than a week after the Solstice, so the first half way in daylight even with an 8PM start time on the last Friday of every month.
