Victory Rally held on Freedom Plaza for first six J20 defendants after acquittal

On the 22nd of December, three of the former J20 defendants acquitted by a jury on Dec 21 spoke at a victory rally held on Freedom Plaza. They and other speakers denounced the governments's so far failed attempt to abuse the legal process to suppress dissent under Donald Trump. At this point, the J20 trial scoreboard stands at six acquitted, 188 more to go.

People For Fairness Coalition holds annual march and vigil for fallen homeless

On the 21st of December, People For Fairness coaltion held their annual vigil and march to remember those who have died on the street while homeless this year. This year 45 people died on the streets, some of their names as well as a casket were carried in the march from Luther Place Memorial Church to Freedom Plaza.

First 6 defendents acquitted of all charges in first J20 trial

On the 21st of December, after a trial lasting well over a month, the jury returned a verdict in the first of the many J20 trials: all six defendents not guilty on all counts. The jury has thrown Jennefer Kerkhoff's "novel legal theories" about proximity to protest being somehow unlawful back in the government's face. There are 188 more defendents still facing serious charges, but the government has taken a serious defeat in this first trial.

Power4PuertoRico distributes paper towels on Capitol Hill

On the 20th of December, members of Power4PuertoRico distributed paper towels on Capitol Hill, evoking Trump's infamous paper towel tossing in his post-hurricane visit to Puerto Rico. The paper towel distrubution was to remind members of Congress that Puerto Rico cannot rebuild unless Congress passes a comprehensive aid package.

Vigil held at DC Jail for DREAM 7 as more protests demand no budget without a clean DREAM Act

On the 19th of December, DREAMERs, other migrants, and their allies held a vigil outside the DC Jail for 7 DREAMers and one ally who were being held after a Friday civil disobedience in Senator Schumer's office. They refused to give their names and are on a hunger strike until a clean DREAM act is part of the upcoming budget deal. Three were supposed to be released Tues night but never were.

Civil Disobedience over GOP Tax Bill rocks Capitol Hill

On the 18th of December, the US Senate prepared to vote the following day on Donald Trump's GOP Tax Scam bill. Hundreds of protesters swarmed the offices of both the House and Senate, joined at times by pro DREAM Act protesters. The protests culminated in civil disobedience in the Russell Senate Office builidng Rotunda.

Washington Football team recommits to racist name, "Redhawks" advocates rally before game

On the 17th of December, advocates of changing the Washington Football Team's name to Washington Redhawks held a pep rally before the team's 1PM game at FedEx Field. Speakers included members of the Piscataway Nation, on whose land FedEx Field sits. This was after the Washington Football Team released a Dec 13 statement condemning the "Redhawks" publicity stunt and recommitting to keeping the team's racist name.

DC March for Jeruselem condemns Trump's plans to move US Embassy

On the 16th of December, what may have been the largest march for Palestine in years in DC began at the Ellipse and ended at the US Capitol. The rallies and march condemned both Trump for announcing plans to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and Congress for submitting the bill treating Jerusalem as the Capitol of Israel to the White House every year since 1996. Trump was the first President to sign this dangerous, warmongering bill.

Protest held against NPS deer slaughter in Rock Creek Park

On the 15th of December, protesters gathered at the intersection of Military Road and Oregon Ave to oppose the shooting of deer in Rock Creek Park by the National Park Service. NPS has been having deer shot by USDA APHIS Wildlife Services (WS) since 2013, over the heated objections of many who live near the park and other area residents.

Rising Hearts hoaxes Washington Football Team with name change to Redhawks

On the 14th of February, Rising Hearts Coalition spread a story that the Washington Football Team has finally agreed to ditch their racist name and mascot, replacing them with "Washington Redhawks."
