DC Ferguson shuts down Chinatown demanding Lanier actually end jump-outs

On the 16th of June, DC Ferguson returned to the streets and shut down Chinatown, demanding not only that Police Chief Lanier keep the de facto promise she just made to end jump-outs, but also an end to gentrifcation and homelessness. The 16th of June was the 39th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising that marked the start of the movement that ultimately ended Apartheid in South Africa.

#JusticeForMuslims protests police shootings, FBI entrapment

On the 11th of June, both Muslim activsts and DC Ferguson activists showed up at the Dept of Justice to protest the recent spate of police shootings of Muslims in the US and the FBI's well-worn resort to entrapment. The tactics now in use by the FBI are essentially those of the Green Scare coupled to a quick willingness to open fire. African-American activists against police brutality fear they are next in line for FBI entrapment and murder, this has happened before.

Armed bikers protesting existance of Phoenix mosque outnumbered by counterprotest

On the 30th of May, armed motorcycle gang members staged an anti-Islamic rally outside a mosque in Phoenix, Arizona. They showed up with semiautomatic rifles and full military gear to draw offensive cartoons while police kept them apart from a larger group of counterprotesters. Many have remarked that the National Guard would probably have opened fire if African-American protesters against police brutality in Baltimore had shown up carrying similar weapons.

Anonymous claims DC cops ordered to arrest homeless between midnight and 5AM

A Twitter message from Anonymous claims that DC police have been ordered to impose an illegal, de facto curfew on the homeless, arresting them between the hours of midnight and 5 AM. It does not cite a context nor a location. Since there is no legal curfew, these arrests would have to be on made up or spurious "charges of convenience." Alternately they use "evidence" from illegal stop and frisks, known as jumpouts in DC. This kind of spurious arrest was how Freddie Grey got killed. Does DC want a week of protests, riots, and no baseball too?

Baltimore abandons curfew after repeated civil disobediance arrests

On Sunday, the 3ed of May, Baltimore's Mayor announced she was giving up on the 10PM curfew and lifting it effective immediately. Also, the National Guard and out of jurisdiction cops are now supposed to be "drawn down." Since Tuesday, April 28 the curfew had been directly responsible for provoking civil disobediance protests, arrests, and fighting that at least once escalated to "rubber" bullets. The last two nights of the curfew featured civil disobediance arrests of mostly white allies near City Hall and police assaults on African-American curfew protesters elsewhere

Solidarity march demands DC cops OUT of Baltimore

On the 29th of April, a huge Baltimore Uprising solidarity march issued forth from Chinatown. This march visited the Wilson Building (DC's city hall) and the White House. At the White House, the security lights behind the fence were turned on for the duration of the protests, something that used to be exceedingly rare and reserved for things like fence-jumpers and suspicious packages.

Baltimore/Freddie Grey solidarity protests begin in DC

On the 28th of April, as the curfew threatened peaceful protesters in Baltimore, solidarity protests began in DC. Protesters marched on the White House, only to find Obama's answer to the Question of Baltimore was to barricade the White House. Later a surprise "pop-up" protest blockaded 14th and U sts, and grew over time as bystanders joined in to reinforce the blockade.

Baltimore police keep baseball fans in stadium during massive Freddie Grey protest

On the 25th of April, a massive protest took to the streets of Baltimore demanding justice for Freddie Grey, whose spine was broken by Baltimore police. Both before and after the City Hall rally, protesters marched on the baseball game at Camden Yards. Due to the protests, police "advised" baseball fans to remain in the stadium. Until at least 6PM it seemed this huge protest was able to chase Baltimore's killer cops right off the street. After that things got rough.
