Arlington Independent Media Wins National Award

Arlington Independent Media (AIM) has won the Overall Excellence in Public Access award in the 2014 Hometown Media competition. This marks the ninth time in the last 24 years that AIM has received the prize. The Hometown Media Awards, presented by the Alliance for Community Media, recognize and honor community media and local cable programs that are first distributed on Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels. Awards are presented to creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience media in a different way.“We are pleased and honored to win this award, which recognizes the outstanding work of our staff and volunteers,” AIM Executive Director Paul LeValley said. “It is especially gratifying in a year when major audio capabilities will be added to our facility and the FCC has granted us a permit to construct a low-power FM station. Not only was last year’s work judged to be the best in the country, but next year is looking even brighter.”AIM has served the Arlington community as an important source of locally produced independent news, information, and entertainment for more than 30 years. In that time, it has televised thousands of programs produced by individual members and area organizations. AIM programming is seen on Comcast channel 69 and Verizon channel 38, the Arlington County public access cable television channels, as well as on a live stream on www.arlingtonmedia.org.The award will be presented on August 7, 2014, at the Hometown Media Awards ceremony during the Alliance for Community Media and National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture National Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
