March against toxic waste site prisons disrupts Bureau of Prisons, FBI, DOJ

On the 13th of June, the Toxic Prison March blockaded streets in front of the Bureau of Prisons, the FBI, and the Dept of Injustice after marching through rush hour traffic. Their primary demand was that proposed Federal supermax prisons at Letcher, KY and at Thomson, IL be cancelled as one site is a moutaintop removal site and the other a military Superfund site. Further demands included the release of ALL prisoners and closure of every prison on the continent.

Many times in the march, chants and songs called for burning the prisons to the ground. Clearly these marchers intend to "take no prisoners" in the fight against mass incarceration, political imprisonment, and the locations of prisons on toxic waste sites. Prisons on toxic sites are nothing less than a back door death sentence. Prisons have been flashpoints of rebellion, even revolution in the past: the French Revolution began with the storming of the Bastille prison.

Two days earlier, a Saturday night panel of speakers at the Fight Toxic Prisons convergence included former political prisoners Ramona Africa (MOVE), Eric McDavid(entrapped by Anna and the FBI), and Peg Mullet of the Arizona 5(Earth First!).
