Code Pink disrupts Senate war hearing
As US Secretary of "Defense" Chuck Hagel prepared to address the Senate Armed Services Committee for an ISIS war hearing, Several Code Pink activists rose from their seats chanting "No More War!" They were supported by other members of Code Pink with signs
One sign at the protest read "I can't believe we are still protesting this shit!" It has taken less than a week from "no ground troops" to "boots on the ground." There are those who believe that a return to war with the US is exactly what ISIS needs to build their "caliphate," since running a country in peacetime may well be beyond them. At one point in the hearing, Sen. Graham asked Sen Dempsey: "Do you know any major Arab ally who supports ISIS?" Dempsey responded with: "I know major Arab allies who fund them." believed to be referring to the Saudis, who as America's oil pimps can seemingly do no wrong. Another Senator had the nerve to accuse Code Pink of being warlike themselves! I've been in enough "warlike" protests to know one when I see one, and Code Pink's disruptions do not involve the use of force so this Senator is talking trash
The most "warlike" recent protests actually involved warlike cops, not warlike protesters. They took place in Ferguson, MO. The most "warlike" protests I've seen in recent years would be the 800 SDS and anarchist protesters, some with tower shields who defeated the Capitol Police on Jan 27, 2007, the Pittsburgh G20 anticapitalist protest, and the siege of the Koch Brothers "Defending the American Dream" convention in Nov 2011. That last one was an actual siege, with the Convention Center surrounded and nothing allowed in or out. Code Pink has never put anyone under siege, never carried Roman Army style shields or traded rocks for rubber bullets with the riot squad. Even these protests are no match (not even the militarized cops) for tanks, artillery, and bombing from the air. Senator Levin must have never seen a "warlike" protest. Sen Levin's biography does not list military service, so it seems he has not seen an actual war either. Perhaps he knows little of war or of protest, yet is on the Armed Services Committee?
This whole thing is sooo 2004, hell I'm even going back to NYC for a huge march this weekend, even if that is over climate change it still reminds me of the 2004 GOP Convention protests
