7 arrests at FERC in fracking protest

On the 25th of March, seven anti-fracking protesters were arrested after blockading the driveways of FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. At first they set up in front of FERC cooking up pancakes on a solar grill, while inviting FERC to send out someone to discuss the destruction of the Holleran family's maple trees to make way for a fracked gas pipeline. When FERC ignored them, they escalated, setting up a picket line from which seven activists broke away to blockade FERC's driveway.

FERC commissioners had been invited to taste the last maple syrup from a farm destroyed by eminent domain and armed Federal Marshals for a pipeline. Instead they chose to do things the hard way. Since FERC would not come out, protesters decided they were going in. When security guards blocked them out, they turned the tables, blocking FERC's car dependent commisioners in by closing the exit from their underground parking garage.

Once again, Beyond Extreme Energy has taken direct action against what many have concluded is a rubber stamp machine for the gas fracking and potentially export industry. This is not the first time that garage has been shut down by protesters and it is highly unlikely that this was the last time either. Of course, if FERC decides to put their rubber stamp away like they had to do with the Jordan Cove LNG export plant, that could change. Until then, where there is no other way, there's direct action,..
