Banner drop calls WMATA bosses "vampires"

On the morning of the 25th of October, a banner drop at the Dupont Circle Metro station denounced the fare-hiking, service-cutting, cop-loving managers of WMATA as "vampires sucking the life out of our city."

For many DC residents, Metro trains and busses are too expensive to ride or no longer go where they need to go, when they need to go there. For others, police aggression and brutality have made the system too dangerous to ride.

The problems in Metro probably have a lot to do with the stunning increase in bicycle ridership in DC even as gas prices have plummeted. Former Metro users of all economic classes, from the very rich to the very poor are bailing out. There are now at least three bike rental firms up and running where there used to be one, and bike lane congestion during rush hour is becoming a problem as more and more people bail out of Metro and car traffic stays the same or increases.
