Summary: Cannabis Kills Cancer Cells While Leaving Healthy Cells Intact

The 182 page report titled "Cannabis for the Treatment of Cancer: The Anticancer Activity of Phytocannabinoids and Endocannabinoids" by Justin Kander and edited by Dennis Hill reveal detailed descriptions of studies where cannabis stopped cancer cells from surviving, spreading and metastasizing. Included are also personal testimonies of patients that have used cannabis to treat their cancer. The U.S. government chooses to ignore this critical information and instead continues to publically vilify cannabis, thereby denying cancer patients this potentially life saving medicine.
Here's some definitions to help with clarity;

phytocannabinoid = cannabinoid created by and found in vegetative plants such as Cannabis sativa.

endogenous cannabinoid (endocannabinoid) = cannabinoid created and found internally in human/animal body, part of endocannabinoid system.

Summary of intro to report;

There are millions of cancer deaths worldwide every year despite access to conventional treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. However, an accumulation of research has demonstrated that phytocannabinoids from whole plant cannabis can actually reduce cancer cells in the body while leaving healthy cells intact. It is uncertain whether certain types of cancers will respond to various cannabinoids, though it is generally true that cannabis has an anti-cancer effect in addition to combating nausea from chemotherapy.

The human endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a network of cannabinoid receptors, endogenous cannabinoids and enzymes that work together to maintain homeostasis or balance in the body as environmental conditions change. An example is that the ECS will release endogenous cannabinoids following a head injury and resulting brain trauma to prevent damage to vital cells. It is now becoming evident that the ECS protects against cancer also, and that additional phytocannabinoids from cannabis assist the ECS in fighting cancer.

Apoptosis (programmed cell death) is the most powerful way that both endogenous and phytocannabinoids protect against cancer. Most cells will automatically go through apoptosis once they become old and damaged, though cancer cells grow abnormally and do not. The phtyocannabinoids from cannabis plants cause the cancer cells to turn on their apoptosis programming, thus killing the cancer cells in the process. Healthy cells remain undisturbed and functional.

In addition to causing cancer cells to self-destruct through apoptosis, cannabis also stops tumors from forming their own blood vessels (anti-angiogenic), slows cancer cell reproduction (anti-prolific), and stops cancer from spreading within local tissues (anti-invasive) and moving to other tissues (anti-metastatic).

Commentary from Green Liberty Party - U.S. Presidential candidate Mark Paul Miller;

This is great news for anyone with cancer and their friends and family, though the question remains; Why isn't this potentially life saving information about cannabis killing cancer more widely known?

Perhaps the U.S. DEA wishes to maintain their illogical claims "cannabis is dangerous and has no medical benefit" because they are unwilling to admit to error? Is the media playing the DEA's lapdog?

Are the government forces of "protection" not able to realize that they made a mistake when it comes to cannabis? It could be true that in their overzealous standards of drug enforcement against cannabis the DEA has prevented millions of people from accessing a safe plant medicine against deadly cancer! In net effect the DEA prohibition of cannabis has resulted in many needless deaths and suffering from cancer. If the DEA cannot be bothered to read a new science report showing cannabis kills cancer, maybe a class action lawsuit charging them with negligent homicide of cancer patients by preventing access to a known safe medicine will send a stronger message.

What about pharmaceutical corporations being threatened by cannabis becoming the preferred treatment for cancer instead of deadly chemotherapy and damaging radiation? Surely their profits will decrease over the next decade as cannabis treatments for cancer prove successful at a greater rate. That would be reason enough for pharma to threaten media networks with pulling their commercials should the newscasters dare expose this research.

Either reason could be true, so it is up to the independent media once again to spread the truth and cover under-reported stories.

The GLP position of Presidential candidate Mark Paul Miller is for complete legalization (taxation + regulation) of cannabis for both recreational and medical purposes and that ALL verified cancer patients are aware of and have access to free (government grown) cannabis for treatment of their cancer if they choose to.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I was quite happily surprised when I did my daily "Cannabis cancer" search on Google News and this came up. Kind of surreal! Indeed, the evidence showing that cannabis fights cancer in humans is overwhelming. I encourage curious individuals to read the book, at the very least the anecdotal section, to see just how strong the evidence is and how deep this goes. Feel free to contact me at

Added info on THC/CBD usage differences
by Mark Paul Miller (GLP)

Wednesday Sep 20th, 2017 9:05 PM

Thanks Justin for the great report! My intro to this info was from an employee at a dispensary who told me about the YouTube video with Dr. Christina Sanchez "cannabis kills cancer while leaving healthy cells intact". My mom had already begun chemo for several years before this info was known to me. Had we found out sooner maybe she would have had a better outcome. She was able to try some cannabis at the very end and her oncologist said that she did "better than expected", so maybe it helped a bit. Unfortunately she lost her life to a simple infection following a year of intense chemo.

This knowledge about cannabis killing cancer needs to be made available to the public, yet the FDA/DEA keeps trying to sweep it under the rug.

The differences in THC and CBD usage should be mentioned. The report states that THC is more effective against cancer following a brief period of abstinence before resuming treatment. Two days of no THC intake and then two days of using THC is the pattern for killing cancer cells. If THC is taken everyday the effectiveness against cancer cells wears off. CBD can be used daily, but THC should have "time off" to be more effective. That is the general idea, though the details could vary from person to person.

recovery phase reference
by keeping cannabis effective

Wednesday Sep 20th, 2017 9:58 PM

pg. 40; "An interesting observation was the benefit of a 'recovery phase' for increasing cytotoxicity. The researchers observed that prolonged cannabis treatment had a cytostatic effect rather than cytotoxic. However, by stopping cannabis treatment after several days of administration, the cell cycle resumes and the cells die."

12/2/17 - This is just preliminary research and cannabis shouldn't be considered a "miracle" cure for cancer. The stories at the end indicate that not everyone survived even when given cannabis, though it seemed to improve their final outcome somewhat.

This information is being somewhat hidden from the public when it should be loudly broadcast by the mainstream media. Please share this report if possible.

FDA warns companies marketing unproven products, derived from marijuana, that claim to treat or cure cancer

November 1, 2017

Release

As part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers from health fraud, the agency today issued warning letters to four companies illegally selling products online that claim to prevent, diagnose, treat, or cure cancer without evidence to support these outcomes. Selling these unapproved products with unsubstantiated therapeutic claims is not only a violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, but also can put patients at risk as these products have not been proven to be safe or effective. The deceptive marketing of unproven treatments may keep some patients from accessing appropriate, recognized therapies to treat serious and even fatal diseases.

The FDA has grown increasingly concerned at the proliferation of products claiming to treat or cure serious diseases like cancer. In this case, the illegally sold products allegedly contain cannabidiol (CBD), a component of the marijuana plant that is not FDA approved in any drug product for any indication. CBD is marketed in a variety of product types, such as oil drops, capsules, syrups, teas, and topical lotions and creams. The companies receiving warning letters distributed the products with unsubstantiated claims regarding preventing, reversing or curing cancer; killing/inhibiting cancer cells or tumors; or other similar anti-cancer claims. Some of the products were also marketed as an alternative or additional treatment for Alzheimer’s and other serious diseases.

“Substances that contain components of marijuana will be treated like any other products that make unproven claims to shrink cancer tumors. We don’t let companies market products that deliberately prey on sick people with baseless claims that their substance can shrink or cure cancer and we’re not going to look the other way on enforcing these principles when it comes to marijuana-containing products,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D. “There are a growing number of effective therapies for many cancers. When people are allowed to illegally market agents that deliver no established benefit they may steer patients away from products that have proven, anti-tumor effects that could extend lives.”

The FDA issued warning letters to four companies – Greenroads Health, Natural Alchemist, That’s Natural! Marketing and Consulting, and Stanley Brothers Social Enterprises LLC – citing unsubstantiated claims related to more than 25 different products spanning multiple product webpages, online stores and social media websites. The companies used these online platforms to make unfounded claims about their products' ability to limit, treat or cure cancer and other serious diseases. Examples of claims made by these companies include:

“Combats tumor and cancer cells;”

“CBD makes cancer cells commit ‘suicide’ without killing other cells;”

“CBD … anti-proliferative properties that inhibit cell division and growth in certain types of cancer, not allowing the tumor to grow;” and

“Non-psychoactive cannabinoids like CBD (cannabidiol) may be effective in treating tumors from cancer – including breast cancer.”

Unlike drugs approved by the FDA, the manufacture of these products has not been subject to FDA review as part of the drug approval process and there has been no FDA evaluation of whether they work, what the proper dosage is, how they could interact with other drugs, or whether they have dangerous side effects or other safety concerns. The FDA has requested responses from the companies stating how the violations will be corrected. Failure to correct the violations promptly may result in legal action, including product seizure and injunction.

“We have an obligation to provide caregivers and patients with the confidence that drugs making cancer treatment claims have been carefully evaluated for safety, efficacy, and quality, and are monitored by the FDA once they’re on the market,” Commissioner Gottlieb added. “We recognize that there’s interest in developing therapies from marijuana and its components, but the safest way for this to occur is through the drug approval process – not through unsubstantiated claims made on a website. We support sound, scientifically-based research using components derived from marijuana, and we’ll continue to work with product developers who are interested in bringing safe, effective, and quality products to market.”

This latest action builds on the more than 90 warning letters issued in the past 10 years, including more than a dozen this year, to companies marketing hundreds of fraudulent products making cancer claims on websites, social media and in stores. Additionally, the FDA recently took decisive action to prevent the use of a potentially dangerous and unproven treatment used in ‘stem cell’ centers targeting vulnerable cancer patients. The FDA encourages health care professionals and consumers to report adverse reactions associated with these or similar products to the agency’s MedWatch program.
