Over 100 arrests as Sunrise Movement occupies Nancy Pelosi's office
On the 10th of December, the Sunrise Movement visited a number of Congressional offices and staged a sit-in in Nancy Pelosi's office, demanding a "Green New Deal" on climate change and fossil fuels. Reports on Twitter indicate more than 100 people were arrested and over 800 participated althogether.
With dire reports on climate change coming even from inside Donald Trump's own government, it appears Sunrise Movement does not intend to wait 8 futile years for Nancy Pelosi to do something about it on her own initiative like some did in the Obama years. For two years the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House yet no climate change bills emerged. Instead we got Obamacare, which was designed to keep corporations in charge of healthcare and deflect calls for a much cheaper single-payer "Medicare for all" system. Nancy Pelosi is going to have to do better than that this time around.
