Environmentalists celebrate as Obama vetoes GOP Keystone pipeline bill

On the 24th of February, US President Obama vetoed the Republican Party's bill attempting to force him to approve the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. Members of 350.org showed up outside the White House to celebrate this veto and demand that Obama take the next step and refuse to approve the pipeline itself.

Congress will attempt to override the veto, but the passage of the bill was not by or near a veto-proof majority. Still, one of the largest personal stakes in the Alberta tar sands mines is held by the Koch brothers, they will no doubt use their usual bribes and "persuasive lobbying" to try and pick up votes for the veto override
