Chase Bank gets protest over funding Coastal Gaslink pipeline
On the 22nd of December, protesters showed up at a Chase Bank branch on K st. This was just three days after Wet'suwet'en land defenders again evicted Coastal Gaslink construction crews from unceded First Nations' land. Chase Bank is funding the attempt to build this fracked gas pipeline over land the Wet'suwet'en have never ceded, surrendered, or yielded in any way to so-called "Canada."
A large contingent of bike cops showed up to ensure protesters did not enter the bank branch. Only one customer attempted to enter during this same time frame. Security had to let them in a side door. Customers who either do not trust the police or fear the presence of so many cops implies a crime inside the bank do not approach during scenes such as this. Although the branch was not formally closed, so far as many customers would be concerned it was effectively shut down.
