Micah Turner announced on October 6, 2012 at an Occupy DC rally on Freedom Plaza trhat he has defected from the US Army, having been AWOL for weeks. After giving a 25 minute interview, he immediatly left the area, well ahead of any reaction team.

Video embed is disabled due to security concerns, unless you choose "Full HTML" under "Input Format". With that option, there is actually a media embed tool, which looks like a piece of film. Full HTML is only available to authenticated users, not anonymous users.

The multibillion dollar redevelopment plan for Union Station includes an ugly extra: an "Interim plan" to park idling inter-city busses at Crummel School, in Ivy City. Many residents there already have asthma. On the 15th of August, over half of particpants in an "open house" at Union Station about the proposed "master plan" were from Empower DC.

Slutwalk DC protests blaming victims for rape and sexual assault

In early 2011, a Toronto cop told a woman that had been raped that she was a "slut" and was responsible for being raped. Worst of all, he did this by saying in a public forum after the attack that women "should not dress like sluts" if they don't want to be raped on the street. IIn response to this outrage was born the Slutwalks, protests in many cities against blaming and shaming victims of sexual assault on the basis of appearance or dress.

OK, some of the options on "Filtered HTML" were turned off. Those are back on now, and a test is in "unpublished content". It should be possible to re-edit this article with formatting (rich text, WYSIWYG) now. There is an option to set that up by configuring "Filtered HTML" in admin/site configuration/WYSIWYG profiles. At present though there are more formatting options than the html filter will actually permit, such as underscore.

Had to "disable rich text" to get paragraph breaks to show from "filtered HTML" input mode. This displayed HTML code for paragraph breaks that for some reason did not actually display. I removed those codes and returned the input field to plain text with carriage returns for paragraphj breaks, then it formatted correctly

NOTE: You want to do this BEFORE typing anything, otherwise you have to go back and remove control characters!

On the 28th of July, thousands of opponents of natural gas fracking marched from the US Capitol to the American Petroleum Institute, with an intermediate stop at the American Natural Gas Association. Reportback from Sunday AIDS march on Washington

This event was NOT the Tuesday, July 24 mobilization, but rather a mass march that kicks off the massive International AIDS Convention.

That convention is in the US for the first time in 23 years, thanks to the lifting of a visa ban on people testing positive for HIV. Unfortunately non-US sex workers who were supposed to participate in the convention were still denied visas.
