Thousands protest Washington Football Team's racist name at Vikings game

On the 2nd of November, an estimated three to five thousand protesters showed up outside a Minnesota Vikings game to protest their opponents, the Washington Football Team with their racist name and mascot. Some wore "Rethink" jerseys in the team colors of burgundy and gold. Police estimated 3,200 protesters, others (including al Jazeera) said this estimate was low and about 5,000 protesters were present.

The protest was organized by National Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media. Sports Illustrated published this article about the protest, including an embedded video which I have not seen due to heavy integration of video hosting with adservers and user tracking on their website.

The team itself had an ignominious day. First their team bus crashed even before the protest, then they were defeated 26-29 by the Vikings. Once again, their racism will be said by some to have earned them a losing season. Dennis Banks placed a curse on the team in a 1992 ceremony that they will never return to the Super Bowl until they change their racist name-and they have not returned to the Super Bowl ever since. Prior to that time they had multiple Super Bowl appearances, now they are a regular losing team in the NFL.
