NYPD resorts to orange nets, violence after Brooklyn Bridge shut down
On the 14th of April, #ShutDownA14 protests took place in many cities demanding an end to mass incarceration and the ongoing wave of extrajudicial executions by police. In New York City, police turned violent after protesters blockaded the Brooklyn Bridge. Two serious injuries were reported, and police rolled out orange nets to arrest everyone in target areas just like durng the RNC or when Occupy Wall St blocked the exact same bridge.

Another factor that resembled the 2004 GOP Convention protest arrests was the presence of the scooter cops, known then and apparently still now for violence against protesters.
There is the high probability that the NYPD regarded a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for Second Circuit explicitly allowing cops to suddenly decide to arrest a march they had previously been escorting as a license to engage in mass arrest without restriction. This is a blatent violation of the 1st Amendment, now allowed by an appeals court. If upheld by the Supreme Court, the 1st Amendment will join the Second Amendment as one observed by the US in name only.Perhaps the police now fear African-Americans speaking out as much as they feared the Black Panthers and other armed African-Americans during that era?
