BXE Protests Fracking at the FERCus May 26th
May 26th 6:30 A.M. Seeds of Peace is serving breakfast in front of Union Station to approximately fifty Beyond Extreme Energy protesters, before the march to the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission to convey dissenting messages in regard to the confusion of fracking shale to extract natural gas, to be processed for eventual sale overseas, regardless of the current depressed price, to keep United States energy companies in business.
The march goes around several blocks, with banners and much chanting, arriving at the FERC entrance at 888 1st St., with a row of eight 7 ft. panels with the message "FERC: FACE FAMILIES YOU HURT" blocking the street; traffic is backed up...while a long art banner with messages in regard to communities compromised by fracking operations is held across the front entrance of the FERC building. Other placards with messages such as "NO FRACKING PIPELINES" are held randomly by residents of Cove Point and elsewhere, where the extraction process has caused health related problems. Protesters allow the traffic line to go through, and are peaceful and respectful toward employees arriving for work.
The eight 7 ft. front panels are paraded down the driveway and take up a position in front of another employee entrance, so that all incoming personnel may view it. There is ongoing chanting and singing, with Homeland Security monitoring the demonstration. Media, legal aid, and other support is standing ready. Videos and a fuller report will be posted on the DC IMC later in the day. Debriefing, lunch, and taking rest will be at the Thurgood Marshall Center until 8 P.M., located at 1816 12th Street NW.
