Black Lives Matter sets blockades from Chinatown to N Capitol st for Terrence Sterling

The 8th of November was just short of 2 months after Terrence Sterling was shot by a DC police officer for "erratic driving" his motorcycle. Protesters once again gathered at 3ed and M sts NW where he was shot, this time to deliver a weighted blow. They marched to Chinatown and shut down the iconic 7th and H st shopping area, then marched to N Capitol St and shut it down too, finally shutting down NY Ave one more time.

On Nov 3, 2016, water defenders in N Dakota were crossing the river by kayak to reach a sacred burial ground,. As reporter Erin Schrode interviews a water defender on the shore, a shot is heard and she goes down, hit by one "rubber" bullet reportedly fired from a police or security boat.

Alonzo Smith remembered with balloon release, music, speakers on anniversary of his death

On Nov 1, 2015, Alonzo Smith was killed by two "special police" officers from Blackout Investigations and Security Services at Marbury Plaza on Good Hope Road. On Nov 1, 2016, his family, friends, and a gathering of Black Lives Matter activists remembered him with a balloon release, music, and speakers in front of Marbury Plaza, the place he was murdered.

Funeral March on ICE remembers those who died in detention centers

On the 1st of November, Detention Watch Network and other advocates for migrants held a funeral march from the White House past Customs and Border Patrol to the headquarters of ICE, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. In all of 2016, 11 people have died in ICE detention centers and private prisons paid for by ICE. Since 2003 165 people have died in these inhuman dungeons. Even as the Dept of Justice is phasing out private prisons ICE is racing to sign more contracts.

Black Lives Matter marches with red taped mouths for Terrence Sterling

On the 24th of October, Black Lives Matter activists gathered once again at 3rd and M st, where Terrence Sterling was shot off his motorcycle by a cop who rolled down his window and opened fire on Sep 11. This time, protesters marched around the block with red tape over their mouths symbolizing the obstruction of justice by Mayor Bowser and the police as the community seeks answers and the rest of the video footage of the shooting.

Uber Driver tries to push through Black Lives Matter/Terrence Sterling Protest on NY Ave

Monday the 17th of October marked 6 weeks since MPD shot Terrence Sterling dead for "erratic driving" on his motorcycle. It was also the 4th Monday in a row protesters shut down NY Ave just yards from where he was killed. This time around, there was plenty of "erratic driving" by an Uber driver pushing into protesters and a few other motorists squeezing through narrow gaps. Unlike what happened to Terrence Sterling, police did not respond by rolling down their windows and shooting the drivers.

Felony charges with 45 year sentence filed for videotaping tar sands pipeline shutdown

In a chilling development, prosecutors have filed major felony charges whose maxiumums total 45 years in prison against journalist Deia Schlosberg for filming the direct action that shut down all five pipelines bringing tars sands "oil" into the US on October 11. This is an extreme provocation by prosecutors, who seem to be begging the global movement against extreme extraction to escalate even further.

Black Lives Matter protest at US Attorney's office: Prosecute "special police" who killed Alonzo Smith

On the 13th of October, Black Lives Matter activists, some of them by motorcade, showed up at the US Attorney's office on 4th st NW demanding that the "special police" who killed Alonzo Smith in the Marbury Plaza apartments be prosecuted for murder.

Black Lives Matter shuts down NY Ave,Chinatown, I-395 exit for Terrence Sterling

On the 10th of October, Black Lives Matter shut down streets near the 3ed and M st location where police shot Terrence Sterling off his motorcycle for the 3ed Monday in a row. Terrence Sterling was killed on Monday, Sep 11 and motorists were advised to avoid the area every Monday until Mayor Bowser and MPD release all video footage of the incident,release full details on the killer cop, and both indict and convict him.
