Alonzo Smith remembered with balloon release, music, speakers on anniversary of his death

On Nov 1, 2015, Alonzo Smith was killed by two "special police" officers from Blackout Investigations and Security Services at Marbury Plaza on Good Hope Road. On Nov 1, 2016, his family, friends, and a gathering of Black Lives Matter activists remembered him with a balloon release, music, and speakers in front of Marbury Plaza, the place he was murdered.

Alonzo Smith was a teacher’s assistant best known for his work with children, not some kind of thug like the mainstream press always accuses those killed by police of being. This was not enough to keep two actual thugs from Blackout Investigations and Security Services from pursuing him through Marbury Plaza and choking him to death. When DC police arrived that night they found him handcuffed and "not responsive." He died an hour later in the hospital. Police had been summoned after someone heard Alonzo screaming for help and that people were trying to kill him, those people presumably being the security guards.

The funeral director reported to Alonzo's mother that he had a broken neck, broken collarbone, swollen eyes and bruises around his groin. The D.C. medical examiner’s office has formally ruled Alonzo's death to be a homicide, but the US Attorney's office refused in October 2016 to file any charges against the special police responsible.
