CCAN Polar Bear Plunge protests climate change, raises funds for CCAN

On the 28th of January, Chesapeake Climate Action Network held their annual midwinter Polar Bear Plunge on the banks of the Potomac River at National Harbor. Thousands protest Trump's vist to Philadelphia

On the 26th of January, Donald Trump appeared at a 3 day GOP retreat in downtown Philiadelphia just blocks from the historic City Hall building. Several thousand protesters marched to the police barricades just one block away. Three issues dominated the protests: healthcare, the Keystone/DAPL pipeline executive orders, and Trump's racist wall/sanctuary city/deportation executive orders.

On the 24th of January, "Fuhrer" Donald Trump signed executive orders to restart the Keystone XL approval process and attempt to ram through the Dakota Access Pipeline. Trump announces plans to proceed with DAPL

In one of his very first acts in office, Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer hinted Trump plans to proceed with the Dakota Access Pipeline. Shortly before 10PM on Jan 23, Trump's White House confirmed this plan. The Environmental Impact Statement process is now underway, buying time for the #NoDAPL campaign to target and drive away banks and investors funding the project. Trump will probably attempt to short-circuit this review with some kind of fast-track process.

Counterinaugural protests, disruption, police attacks continue, parade marches unuusally late

On the 20th of January, police continued to fire flashbangs and pepper spray at determined protesters who refused to yield the streets hours after a potential next Hitler, Donald Trump, had been sworn into office. Cops reported "shooting at everybody" with chemical weapons. Anti-fascist fighters took losses to a mass arrest but there is a report that Richard Spencer got punched, and at least one limousine was attacked and set on fire. Meanwhile, the Inaugural parade did not start until 3:55PM, hours later than normal.l

Sit-in at FERC followed by protest at DNC

On the 19th of January, protests against the upcoming Trump adminstration continued with a sit-in against FERC's monthly "public" meeting, from which the public is actually excluded. A second protest was held at the offices of the Democratic National Committee, which fielded a weak, pro-Wall Street candidate against Donald Trump.
