Climate activists attempt to board up corporate lobbyists front doors

On the 30th of August, climate activists sought to board up and sandbag four notorious corporate lobbying offices, as though a hurricane had hit them. The first target was caught undefended and MPD was late. This was the day after Hurricane Ida smashed into New Orleans, which was exactly 16 years after Katrina.

March for An'Twan Gilmore lays siege to MPD's 5D headquarters

On the 28th of August, after a long day of voting rights marches, marchers again assembled at NY Ave and FL Ave NE for An'Twan Gilmore. After a feint downtown, marchers headed E on NY Ave and descended on MPD's 5D headquarters. When they got there, cops stood wall to wall to defend their precinct but avoided a fight. Possibly they know they are guilty and don't want to trigger further unrest.

Final Boycott Nellie's Block Party of the summer

Furious marchers take to the streets night after MPD executes An'Twan Gilmore

On August 25, MPD cops shot and killed An'Twan Gilmore as he tried to drive away after being confronted for sleeping in his car at NY Ave and FL Ave NE. The following night, furious protesters assembled at the same spot and held a confrontational march down FL Ave into town. Any police cars caught in the march were instantly surrounded and heckled. Cops backed off from confronting these marchers, presumably for fear of causing it to blow all the way up.

Climate protesters block Rt 28 in downtown Rockville, MD

On the 26th of August, climate protesters took over the streets of downtown Rockville, including Rt 28, one of two main roads. After a march through the center of town and past Richard Montgomery High School, marchers returned to nearly the starting point. There, moving the "eco-village" props into the street provided cover for young activists to set up the real blockade. Five young activists and two staying with them in solidarity were arrested.

Line 3 protests in DC culminate in protest at WH Chief of Staff Ron Klain's HOUSE

On the 23ed of August, protesters against Enbridge's Line 3 pipeline descended on Washington DC. At first this looked like yet another "snake march" but it soon became apparent these protesters had a special target: Biden's Chief of Staff Ron Klain, who can most likely kill off Line 3 with a stroke of a pen. A protracted protest at his house lasted until around 10PM, when 24 water protectors were arrested.

DC Jail gets another Decarcerate DC noise demo demanding release of ALL inmates

Shortly after dark on the 21st of August, Decarcerate DC again showed up at the DC Jail to hold a noise demo in solidarity with ALL the prisoners trapped inside. Demands are nothing less than the closure of DC Jail and every other jail and prison on the continent and the release of every last inmate. Prison abolition means exactly that.

Protesters at Nellies bring the bikes on possible cusp of victory

On the 13th of August, someone sympathetic to Nellies stabbed out a protester's bicycle tire with a knife. The following Friday (Aug 20), many more protesters were outside Nellie's on bikes, showing the futility of this attack. Doug (owner of Nellies) is also starting to see the futility of defying the community and has agreed to a listening session on Thursday, Aug 26.
