Climate blockaders strike 2nd day in a row in AM rush hour

On the 8th of December, climate blockaders shut down I-395's exit from the tunnel onto New York Ave. The previous day, climate blockaders had been part of the larger ShutDown DC direct action that choked off much of the vehicle access to the US Capitol. I-395 over the 14th st Bridge is the route most Congressmen use to get to work, and blocking the tunnel exit often backs it up past the bridge, shutting off this access.

Social Justice and climate groups blockade much of Capitol Hill in AM Rush Hour

On Dec 7, 2021 social justice and climate groups launched waves of blockaders against AM rush hour traffic near the US Capitol. Cops managed to pre-empt Extinction Rebellion DC's boat, only to get Code Pink's Peace Tank blocking Independence Ave anyway. Other blockades hit Penn Ave NW and SE, Mass Ave NE, and there was even a report on radio of traffic issues near the White House.

Fascist Patriot Front march on US Capitol draws jeers and heckling from DC residents

On the 4th of December, the explicitly fascist group "Patriot Front" again marched into DC with zero advance publicity, hoping to avoid anti-Fascist counterprotesters. This is not as effective as it used to be. Random DC residents and tourists followed the march, heckling, shouting insults, and running a noisemaker.

Pro-Choice protesters face off with extreme right, theocrats as SCOTUS hears abortion case

On Dec 1, the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Missisippi abortion law case. It is widely suspected that with Trump's "justices" on the court, this case will bring a destablizing end to Roe vs Wade. Outside, "warriors for Christ" and the "official street preachers" hate group attempted to disrupt a big pro-choice rally, while Liberty University and other theocrats held their own antichoice rally.

House Build Back Better Act Supports Puerto Rico

The House of Representatives voted to increase Medicaid funding and incentives to support manufacturing jobs in Puerto Rico as part of the Build Back Better Act.

“This legislation means that Puerto Rico can access more resources that the island desperately needs,” said Eric LeCompte, Executive Director of Jubilee USA Network, which worked on debt and disaster relief for the island since 2015. "Faced with high poverty rates, debt crisis and natural disasters, Puerto Rico can really use the aid."
