On the 6th of October, DC's Harriet's Wildest Dream assembled in Freedom Plaza for a march demanding killer cops be fired and jailed. Included in the speakers were the mothers of a number of people murdered by police in DC and surrounding areas.
On the 26th of September, Christo-Fascist Moms4Liberty showed up in the morning at Gaithersburg High School in Montgomery County, MD. They and "Billboard Chris" held an anti-LGBTQ rally especially condemning trans kids but were outnumbered and opposed by counterprotesters and students alike.
On the 15th of September, corrupt "frat boy" and so-called "Justice" Kavanaugh again got protesters at his fancy Chevy Chase home. This time around, a new chant was added "we want to know who owns your court." This was in addition to chants calling out Kavanaugh as a rapist and a fascist.
As part of their "Project Pipes" campaign to shut down Washington Gas instead of giving them a $5 billion subsidy to replace their leaking pipes, Extinction Rebellion DC (XRDC) researched their ownership. On turning over a rock, XRDC uncovered a toxic mess: turns out Washington Gas is owned by Michigan-based AltaGas, an investor in the infamous Mountain Valley Pipeline or MVP.
On the 26th of August, drag defenders kept a sold-out drag show at Aunt Helen's in Washington DC safe, defeating an attempt by hatemongering street preachers to invade at least their space if not the venue behind them. Defenders deployed umbrellas to shield families with children from the potentially doxxing cameras of the Christian extremist preachers and their allies.
On the 3ed of August, Climate Defiance got inside the Citibank-sponsored Citi Open tennis match in Washington DC. Once inside, they unfurled banners and tossed oversize mock tennis balls painted in flames onto the field. The entire event had to stop and wait while the mock tennis balls were removed, and security got quite rough with Climate Defiance.
Trump's appearance at DC's E Barret Prettyman Federal courthouse created a circus atmosphere outside, MAGA meatheads protested Trump's indictment for three major felonies stemming from his failed Jan 6 2021 coup attempt. They were in turn counterprotested by DC residents and others who were not pleased to Trumpers return to DC given the known history of violence Nov 14 2020-Jan 6 2021.
The first of August was the 1 year anniversary of the extreme-right, pro-Trump/pro J6 protest at the DC Jail. As has been routine in recent months, counterprotesters drowned them out with bullhorns, sometimes in siren mode.
On the 20th of July, Beyond Extreme Energy and residents of the area near the Mountain Valley Pipeline project protested first at FERC, then at the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
On the 19th of July, Climate Defiance got inside the Rayburn Building and again shut down a Biden administration official responsible for approving more fossil fuel projects. This time the target was Deputy National Climate Advisor Mary Repko. She packed up and quit the field like all the others driven off by Climate Defiance.
Wednesday, the 12 of July was one of the four hottest days ever recorded globally. On that day, members of Congress fiddled while not only Rome but the whole world burned. The Congressonal Women's Baseball Game was supposed to be business as usual, but Climate Defiance had other ideas and temporarily shut the game down.
Extinction Rebellion DC challenged Washington Gas to a joust over the future of their $5B "project pipes" in Banneker Park on the 7th of July. Washington Gas was a no-show, so contestants best described as the Green Knight vs the Gas Knight (stand-in for Washington Gas) jousted against targets for the win. Washington Gas's stand-in just could not hit their climate targets.
With all the fireworks of hate coming from the Supreme Court, some protesters decided to show up at "Justice" Alito's house. This was a well-picked target, as in the leaked draft of the Dobbs decision Alito cited 17th century jurist Matthew Hale. Hale is famous for having two women executed for witchcraft as well as originating the doctrine that rape was legal within marriage. This earned Alito the "witchburner" name.
On the 12th of June, climate activists continued their ongoing offensive in DC with a blockade and mock pipeline installation at the Dept of Energy's headquarters.
As always, Capitol Pride in Washington DC was a festive event with hundreds of thousands showing up. Although many consider DC a safe haven, the hateful, genocidal politics spreading elsewhere in the US cast a shadow over the event.
At a school board meeting in Montgomery County, MD (just north of DC), Moms4Liberty and a groups of Muslim parents demanded soft book bans (via an opt-out process) on pro-LGBTQ books. Pro-LGBTQ folks counterprotested, demanding schools remain secular.
On May 29, Memorial day, a pack of pro-J6 (Capitol insurrection) protesters showed up outside the DC Jail. Opposing them and disrupting their brazen support for Trump's coup attempt was "DC Residents against Terrorism and Sympathizers," or DC RATS for short. One of the pro-J6 protesters got violent, assaulting a DC RATS activist carrying a bullhorn and attempting to destroy the bullhorn. The attacker was not arrested.
On the 18th of May, Beyond Extreme Energy and 3ed Act backed up frontline activists, descending on the monthly meeting of FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Protesters blocked the driveway with rocking chairs and protrayed the Commissioners as puppets of W Va Senator Joe Manchin. Manchin is still promoting coal, fracking, and the infamous Mountain Valley Pipeline or MVP.
For nearly a year, supporters of the pro-Trump insurgents who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6 2021 have been protesting outside the DC Jail in support of the terrorists held or passing through there for J6. On the 14th of May, they got a surprise: counterprotesters got their first and took the prime spot! The fascists responded with violence.
On the 13th of May, far-right Christian extremists again attempted without success to disrupt a drag show at a venue on Barracks Row in SE DC. Again a solid wall of umbrellas blocked their view of people entering the venue, again loud music made their hateful words hard to hear.
