July 4 pot legalization march faces fences, checkpoints, troops

Every July 4 there is a cannabis legalization march from the White House to a concert on the Mall near 23ed st. The march demands an end to all federal, state, and local laws persecuting pot users. Since 2002 the march has had to pass through police checkpoints to get to the concert site. This year there were an unusual number of troops and military vehicles in the streets as well as all those "Freedom American Style" bag search checkpoints.

Statehood, pot legalization activists march against rider to overturn Initiative 71

On the 10th of December, opponents of a rider to overturn DC's voter-approved Initiative 71 marched from the Dept of Justice to the Heritage Foundation on Capitol Hill. Once in the Capitol Hill area they left the sidewalks and blocked streets the way civil rights protesters have been doing for the past few weeks.

July 4th Hemp/Cannabis parade runs into "freedom fence" and checkpoints

On the 4th of July, the annual Hemp/Cannabis legalization march had to pass through the Mall bag search checkpoints, at least one arrest was reported just past the checkpoints. Some others refused to enter the concert area due to the checkpoints. Those checkpoints are probably why this march and concert no longer draws the thousands it used to before George W Bush brought public event checkpoints to DC.

DC is on the verge of legalizing pot, so long as a certain Congressman from MD's Eastern Shore does not succeed in derailing DC's decision. There is a call for a boycott of MD Eastern Shore products due to his interference.
