Code Pink protests pending Saudi executions of peaceful protesters

As this is being written the absolute monarchy of Saudi Arabia is making final preparations to behead and crucify Shia dissidents for peacefully protesting the armed demolition of their home town of Awamiyah. On the 10th of August, Code Pink showed up outside the Saudi embassy to protest these planned executions, the sort of behavior the US claims only comes from Daesh(ISIS).

Code Pink holds 24 hr emergency vigil against war with N Korea at White House

On the 9th of August, Code Pink began a 24 hour emergency protest/vigil in front of the White House against the reckless, escalating threats of war between Trump and the North Korean regime.

Round Dance and rally at TransCanada's office protest KXL, Potomac Pipeline

On the 8th of August, protester returned to 13th and I sts, best known from the Jan 20th (J20) Inauguration protests. TransCanada has their DC corporate office inside 1250 I st (which actually faces 13th st), and on August 8 a number of groups staged a rally against the Keystone XL and Eastern Panhandle Expansion (Potomac) pipelines. After the rally protesters held a round dance blocking 13th st from the TransCanada office to the Wells Fargo across the street.

DC Bike Party stages daytime ride to soccer game

On the 5th of August, the DC Bike Party tried something new: a daytime ride on Saturday departing shortly after 4PM to a DC United soccer game. Turnout was reduced due to the unusual time but even a small DC Bike Party still takes up several blocks at a time of streets filled entirely with bikes.

Sierra Club holds latest in series of campouts against Potomac Pipeline

On the 30th of June, environmental groups in MD began a "rolling encampment" of camps moving downstream on the C&O canal to oppose TransCanada's Eastern Panhandle Extension, also known as the Potomac Pipeline. On the 5th of August, camp was set up at McCoy's Ferry in Western MD, with the Sierra Club as the organizer for the weekend

Seven arrested on Capitol Hill demanding Schumer vote NO on Trump's FERC nominees

On the 3rd of August, seven people were arrested outside Senator Chuck Schumer's office demanding he vote NO on Trump's pro-pipeline/pro fracking nominees for FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. FERC is infamous as the gas industry's rubber stamp but lacks a quorum and cannot approve anything unless Trump's nominees are confirmed

Night Out for Safety and Liberation challenges notion that police provide safety

On the 1st of August, BYP100 DC, BLM DC, and the Movement 4 Black Lives DC hosted DC's Night Out for Safety and Liberation at Covenant Baptist Church in Anacostia. This event was part of a national series of events promoting alternatives to relying on police, and in direct counterpoint to the official "National Night Out."

Vigil marks Terrence Sterling's 32nd birthday at 3rd and M sts

On September 11, 2016, MPD officer Brian Trainer shot Terrence Sterling off his motorcycle at 3rd and M st NW. Ever since a memorial to him has been maintained at the site, and Black Lives Matter protests took place there for months therafter. On July 31, 2017, Terrence Sterling would have turned 32 if he had not been murdered by police. Marking the occasion, his family and friends held a vigil at 3ed and M sts.

"Our Lives On the Line" celebrates victory over Trumpcare 4.0, warns against further attempts

Update Jul 30:Trump vows to cut off ACA subsidies unilaterally unless Congress passes a Trumpcare bill.

The July 29 Our Lives On the Line rally and march on the White House celebrated the 4th defeat of Trumpcare bills in the Senate. The protest also warned against any further attempts to gut medicaid and health coverage.

Trumpcare 4.0 defeated by single vote after still more protests at the Capitol

Twenty hours of scheduled debate on Trumpcare ended at 9:30PM on July 27 with protesters again at the US Capitol and no bill passed. An 8 page bill was released-with two pages dedicated to defunding Planned Parenthood. In a hurried vote beginning at 1:20 AM on July 28, this 4th attempt at passing Trumpcare was defeated by a single vote. McCain voted NO, and Pence left the Capitol in defeat. Protest WORKS!
