Neo-Nazi band "Horna" may have played Sat, April 6 at Filipino Cultural Center in Oxen Hill, MD

"Satanic Black Metal" band Horna with multiple neo-Nazi members had announced a few days before the April 6 show date that they were playing in Baltimore at Diner Latino after being run out of Oxen Hill, MD and Ashburn, VA. Shows have been cancelled in Houston and LA over their neo-Nazi connections

Update Apr 7:There is a report on Twitter that Horna announced hours before showtime that they were actually playing at the Filipino Multicultural Center in Oxen Hill, MD. This was one of the venues that had previously cancelled.

Toll lanes (Lexus lanes) proposed for Beltway on MD side and I-270

The MD State Highway Administration has announced a "traffic relief" plan for the Beltway and I-270 that has been reported elsewhere to include widening both roads and making all of the new lanes "variable-toll" lanes that are meant to ensure the wealthy can bypass traffic congestion. States have learned the hard way that widening roads doesn't reduce congestion, so the focus now is paid bypasses for the rich.

"Climate Wave Rally" in Annapolis promotes MD "Clean Energy Jobs Bill" on first day of session

On the 9th of January, environmental groups rallied near the MD State House for passage of the "Clean Energy Jobs Act," which would mandate that 50% of MD's electricity come from renewable sources other than trash incineration within ten years. After being re-elected, Gov Hogan claimed to "have a purple surfboard" to "ride the blue wave" so protesters asked him to trade in his purple surfboard for a green one.

Maryland Board of Public Works DENIES permit for Potomac Pipeline

On the 2nd of January, MD kicked off the year with a resounding rejection of the Trump agenda of more fossil fuels and more global warming. On this day the Maryland Board of Public Works unanimously voted to DENY Transcanada subsidiary Columbia Gas a permit needed to build the Potomac Pipeline under the Potomac River.

Mother of three facing deportation takes sanctuary from ICE in local church

On the 11th of December, Rosa Gutierrez refused a demand from ICE to self-deport, instead taking sanctuary in Cedar Lane Church in Bethesda, MD. Rosa has three children and has cited concern for their welfare as her reason for defying ICE's demand to leave the US. For years she put up with an ankle monitor and repeated ICE checkins, only to ICE demand that she leave anyway.

Charles County residents may have DEFEATED proposed Dominion compressor station

Residents of both Accokeek, MD and Cove Point, MD may have just won a major victory. In the face of unrelenting, "not one step back" community opposition, Dominion Energy is claiming to have thrown in the towel on building a crucial fracked gas compressor station in Charles County, MD near Accokeek. While this has yet to be entered into the court docket of a related lawsuit, it would be foolish for Dominion to publicly state they have cancelled the compressor station if they still intend to build in Charles County.

Police harass Indymedia journalist at home in wake of Unite the Right II #shutitdowndc

On the evening of August 16, an Indymedia journalist was harassed at home by police. There was one Montgomery County, MD white police SUV and two dark unmarked cars. Four cops were visible. One or more approached the house, saying they wanted help identifying others shown in a Daily caller sting video targetting counterprotesters against Unite The Right II. The journalist refused to cooperate.

Update: The poster of the Daily Caller video which triggered the harassment has been identified as Benny Arthur Johnson of NW DC.

MD residents rally in Baltimore to kick fracked gas infrastructure out of state

On the 18th of April, MD residents from Cove Point, Accokeek, Myersville, and other places menaced by fracked gas project protested outside the MD Dept of the Environment. They were there to demand that the existing state ban on fracking be made meaninful with a ban on fracked gas pipelines and compressor stations, and that the export terminal at Cove Point be shut down.
