DC Bike Party holds big Pride-themed ride

On the 13th of June, the DC Bike Party held their Pride-themed June 2018 ride. This ride was very large, and when the ride went to the basilica at Catholic University and circled the street in front of it not all of the ride would fit in the circle at one due to its size.

Pro bike racers run in N Va

On the 9th and 10th of June, pro bike racers returned to the streets of Clarendon and Crystal City, for the Clarendon and Crystal cups respectively. With the furious resistance mounted by marginalized communities against corporatization of events like Pride, it can be shocking to see the degree of overt corporatization (and militarization in this case) in pro bike racing.

Big DC Bike Party rides to site of A16 (April 2000 IMF) Convergence site

On the 9th of May, a rather large DC Bike Party rode from Dupont Circle to a park in NW, and finally through Adams-Morgan, past Howard, and ended up at a warehouse on Florida Ave. Eighteen years ago, that same warehouse served as the convergence center for the A16/2000 IMF protests, where amoung other things scout bikes had been assembled.

On the 17th of December, advocates of changing the Washington Football Team's name to Washington Redhawks held a pep rally before the team's 1PM game at FedEx Field. Speakers included members of the Piscataway Nation, on whose land FedEx Field sits. This was after the Washington Football Team released a Dec 13 statement condemning the "Redhawks" publicity stunt and recommitting to keeping the team's racist name.

Reportback and video from Catharsis DC "Temple Burn"

On the 11th of November, Catharis DC staged their "Temple Burn" bonfire on the Mall. As always, the bonfire was preceded by a spectacular fire ceremony. Again the NPS limited the size of the bonfire, and this year NPS also banned one of the art installations, a 40+ foot sculpture of a nude woman. This was replaced by a smaller but similar projection installation.
