Protests shift focus to removal after impeachment of Donald Trump

After the Dec 18 impeachment of Donald Trump, groups holding protests calling for impeachment pivoted to the next stage of removing him from office: a vote in the Senate to remove him from office. At least 20 GOP Senators will have to have their feet held to the fires of popular disgust with Trump to remove him prior to Jan 20, 2021.

President Trump Authorizes Somalia Debt Relief

Washington DC - President Trump signed a year-end spending bill which authorizes the first phase of debt relief for Somalia. Earlier in the week Congress passed the spending package which included $35 million to begin paying the principle of $1.1 billion in US held Somalia debt."Relieving Somalia's debt could mean building new roads, women's empowerment, kids going back to school and moving forward measures to end extreme poverty," stated Eric LeCompte, the Executive Director of the religious development group Jubilee USA.

Protesters rally at US Capitol before impeachment of Donald Trump

On the morning of Dec 18, protesters rallied for impeachment of Donald Trump outside the US Capitol as the House began floor debate on doing exactly that. About ten hours later, the full House passed both articles of impeachment. Donald Trump is now the 3ed president in US history to be impeached.

Congress Passes Somalia Debt Relief

As part of the Federal government's year-end spending package or "minibus," Congress passed the first phase of debt relief for Somalia. On Tuesday the House of Representatives passed the DHS Cyber Hunt and Incident Response Teams Act of 2019 (HR 1158) which included $35 million to begin paying the principle of $1.1 billion in US held debt.

Impeachment Eve protests in Olney and all over the US

Dec 17 was the night before the House votes to impeach Donald Trump. All over the US people turned out for protest rallies demanding he be impeached and removed. One of the rallies was in Olney, featuring, Rep Sarbanes, Senator Cardin and Senator Chris Van Hollen.

Kurds protest at White House against betrayal by Trump after defeat of ISIS

On the 14th of December, DC area Kurds, anti-Fascists, and othter supporters of the Syrian Democratic Forces protested in front of the White House. The protest demanded that Turkey pull their troops out of Northern Syria and stop their bombing. In addition protesters condemned Donald Trump for greenlighting the invasion.

Breaking: House Judiciary Committee passes both articles of impeacment

On Friday. Dec 13, the House Judiciary Committe voted to approve two articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. One is for abuse of power (he used the Presidency for personal gain) and the other is for obstruction of Congress. This sets up a floor vote on impeachment next week

DC Bike Party rides to bike-themed "Light Battle" at Georgetown Glow

On the 11th of December, the last DC Bike Party of the year took to the streets. After an uphill run via Mass Ave and some side streets to Wisconsin Ave, the ride stopped at "Light Battle" at Georgetown Glow. This artwork features two teams of stationary bikes and an arch of pulsing LED lights.
