Treasury Secretary Yellen and Religious Leaders Hold Historic Meeting on Global COVID Response

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Jubilee USA Network and some of the highest-ranking religious leaders met on global COVID response on Tuesday. The high-level roundtable discussion focused on emergency SDR reserve funds, debt policies, aid, climate change, Puerto Rico relief and bankruptcy, transparency and tax proposals to prevent future crises.

Streets Calling Bike Club holds Breonna Taylor memorial ride

On the 1 year anniversary of Breonna Taylor's murder by Louisville, KY cops, Streets Calling Bike Club held a 6 mile memorial ride for her. The ride was jointly held with the Saturday Night Bike Club.The six miles were one mile for each of the shots fired by the police that stormed her apartment and opened fire in a drug raid aimed at someone else.

DC climate activists, Indigenous activists protest Enbridge Line 3 at Corps of Engineers

On the 12th of March, Anishinaabe and other Indigenous activists protested Enbridge's Line 3 "replacement" pipeline all over the US. They were backed up by climate and anti-pipeline activists. One of these protests was in Washington DC at the headquarters of the US Army Corps of Engineers, without whose permit the pipeline cannot be built.

Stimulus Package Aids Puerto Rico

Congress passed a $1.9 trillion stimulus package that includes Puerto Rico anti-poverty measures and $900 million of increased food aid through the Nutrition Assistance Program. The US territory suffers from a nearly 60% child poverty rate and the coronavirus rescue package funds Puerto Rico's child tax credit benefiting 355,000 low-income families.

“Devastated by the pandemic, debt crisis, high child poverty rates and natural disasters, Puerto Rico needs the stimulus package aid,” said Eric LeCompte, the Executive Director of religious development group Jubilee USA Network.

Spaces in Action hold International Women's Day rally on Mall

The Monday, March 8 DC International Women's Day rally by Spaces in Action prominantly featured the demand for "one fair wage" at $15 an hour. The centerpiece of the rally featured the slogan "fight don't starve."

Pope Visits Iraq Amidst COVID Crisis, Conflict, Soaring Poverty and Struggling Economy

Pope Francis kicks off a 3-day Iraq tour and meetings with Muslim leaders, government officials and representatives of the country's dwindling Christian population. Since the coronavirus pandemic began, Iraq saw poverty numbers climb to 37% and an estimated 11% contraction in its economy.

Breaking: Fascists no-show on Capitol Hill on March 4

For all the bluster from Qanon fools about storming the Capitol for a second time on March 4 and reinstalling Trump in the White House, nothing happened. The Washington Post called the threats a "mirage." This was the third no-show in a row for Trump's Fascist movement in DC: Jan 17, Jan 20(Biden's Inauguration), and now March 4 were all failures to appear on their part. Seems they lost on Jan 6 and know it.

House of Representatives cancels Thursday (March 4) session over threats from militias

On the 3ed of March, US Capitol Police claimed to have credible intelligence that the 3%'ers (which the FBI mistook for a single militia group) planned to again storm the US Capitol the next day on Thurs, March 4. In the face of the threat, House Democrats moved up a planned vote on the George Floyd Policing Act of 2021 to tonight(March 3) so they could go out of session on March 4 and deny the fascists a target.

Students and youth protest useless Montgomery County "climate action plan"

The plan posits an 83% not 100% reduction in greenhouse gas emission-and not until 2035, well after climate chaos has become irreversible
